I know. Sometimes I think too much. I have thought about my topic a great deal and this post is merely me trying to sort out my thoughts.
The talks this month in Sacrament meeting and other meetings has been adversity. I looked up adversity in my trusty dictionary; "adverse fortune or fate, misfortune, calamity." Under trial I found, "the act of trying, testing, or putting to the proof."
I have often wondered when considering the trials we all go through, are we comparing apples to apples? Or apples to oranges? Is there such a thing as one person's trial being "worse" than another's? Or is it a perception based on one's life experience?
Am I digging too deep? What is a greater trial? Loss of employment, death of a loved one, money problems, illness? Is there such thing as a greater trial or are they equal in that each has the purpose of refining and we all don't need the same refining?
These are real questions. I would love your input and insight. Feel free to comment now.

Between general conference and church on Sundays I feel like this is the main topic. I think that if you start to compare or quantify trials you are looking beyond the mark. I have found that trails are usually oppurtunities to grow together. I am reminded of scriptures in D&C that the lord says he will gather his chickens like a hen gathereth her chicks under her wings. Those chickens getting swept up are probably very confused and disoriented, but He who knows all is gathering us together to safety. Just my 2 cents....
That's funny that you posted about this, since Tisha and I were just talking about it the other day. She made the comment that when you hear others trials it makes you realized that yours aren't that bad. But I did say to her, that some may not seem as tragic as others. But no matter how big or small trials are, they are still hard for that person. I don't think you can compare one trial to another. We are all supposed to learn and grow from them.
I found this on my sister's blog. "There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles up, and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity." --Washington Irving
The Lord knows each of us and knows what we can handle. I know that he only gives us trials because he loves us. To me he is saying I am here and I know you are there, same with blessings. Yes, others trials may seem hard to you but to them it may seem like a walk in the park. Without adversity we would not be able to return to our Heavenly Father we were sent here to be test otherwise we should have just gone with Satan's plan.
Wow, great comments. It is truly therapeutic for me to read your blog! I've been in touch with J.Webb again through FB . . . speaking of trials, she's had her share. I am sad to say that many of my close friends have left the church. Just makes me sad that they don't have that going for them to help them through the hard times in life.
Christ suffered for ALL our trials... so I imagine they are ALL important to Him.
I don't think you really can compare one's trials to another's. We are each different and can handle different levels of trials. A small trial to one might be a huge one to another. We have a loving Heavenly Father who knows us and knows what we need to learn. Sometimes we learn something to help others who are going through the same thing, sometimes we won't know why in this life. We never know what is in store for us or what we'll have to go through in this life. One thing I'm greatful for is a loving Father in Heaven who will listen to me always and help me through whatever comes my way.
